The Women in Energy program opens applications to the entire energy community to mark International Women's Day.

This initiative by the Portuguese Energy Association, proposed by the female members of the Future Energy Leaders Portugal program , aims to bring together women in the energy sector in Portugal , promoting their participation in the energy debate, stimulating gender equity and leadership in a sector in great transformation.

The program, in addition to the Implementation Team and the Advisory Board , brings together , so far, around 150 professionals from the sector, from companies and institutions associated with the APE, to whom the first phase of registration was directed.

The 2023 Initiatives Workshop , the program's first event, in an online format, took place on March 3, in an early celebration of International Women's Day , with the presence of the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate who, in the Opening Speech, highlighted the importance of women in the sector, highlighting the need to have a complete and inclusive vision, allowing to create energy solutions that meet everyone's needs.

The workshop, which brought together more than 120 professional women from the sector, had the main objective of selecting the initiatives that will serve as guidelines for the work to be carried out until March 2024, from an initial list presented by the Implementation Team and the Advisory Board.

Initiatives such as publicizing the sector at schools and universities, developing partnerships with entities and institutions that contribute to the programme's objectives, promoting debate events and mentoring actions or promoting career experience sharing events were some of the possibilities identified.

For João Torres, President of APE «The balance is positive, but there is still a long way to go. For this, it is fundamental that women are involved in the change. The initiatives that always mark International Women's Day are opportunities for affirmation and it is with this commitment that they will have an impact in the coming time. »
